Steele Force (aka Buga/ Cashima Steele) is a good friend of the family & amongst the regular visitors at Reality Shock Studio with a rich musical background & many stories to tell. Born in Jamaica & currently residing in Reading UK, Cashima Steele set up the foundation record label ‘Creation’ in 1982, together with Jah-B (Bunny Wailer) and Neville Garrick from Tuff Gong. Releases on this label featured artists such as Black Skin & Colourman (Kick up Rumpus 1986 LP album). Cashima also produced the original Pumpkin Belly (1985) with Tenor Saw, which later evolved into Jammy’s famous Sleng Teng riddim. Creation also worked closely with Youthman Promotions producing famous Sugar Minott tunes like ‘mind blowing decisions’(1984).

Steele explains: “Most of the riddims for Creation Records licked at Channel One – the management at the time was Paulie & JoJo (the Chinese origin Hookim brothers). They create so many artists from back in the day like Michael Prophet, Patrick Andy, Black Uhuru, Michael Palmer, Sugar Minott, Yami Bolo, Junior Reid, Half Pint, Dean Frazer, Toyan, Nitty Gritty . . . the whole of them work at Channel One.” The backline of musicians known as ‘the Revolutionaries’ was a solid foundation to the success of the studios releases and many of the riddims are still revisited in remixed form to this day.

On the production side there are still many unreleased works in the Creation archives: soon to surface are 3 albums from Sugar Minott, Icho Candy & Bounty Hunter, which feature previously un-heard material recorded at Channel One, Leggo Beast & Youthman Promotion studios finally due to see the light of day. Creation will be teaming up with Reality Shock to promote these & future releases. In addition to this Steele Force has recently been ‘forced’ on to the mic by Kris Kemist, producing a track entitled ‘Big Fat Cat’..one for the greedy bankers & financial terrorists. Stay tuned to Reality Shock for further news & releases as the collaborations continue…(Article written by Scruffi)
